I'm trying to get the full use it out of my Quad 44 and uses the mains connections in the back. I recently bought a pair of IEC adapters (A036 IEC 320 c14 to nema 5-15r) but I can't get them to fit on. Did anyone else experience this issue?
Those are standard IEC connectors. IEC - 320 - C14 should plug right in. These cables are available in most computer centers, eBay, and Amazon.
My issue is the profile of the plastic lip. I tried fitting the IEC on my water distiller and it fit. Should I try shaving the plastic lip of the IEC s to fit them to the quad? o the IEC is onto the Quad. I tried fitting the IEC on my water distiller and it fit. These are not IEC C14 connectors. They are an obsolete and rather dangerous unshrouded connector with the same spacing. You can still get the plugs from Quad.
The early ones definitely weren't IEC, but my understanding was later 44 actually did use IEC connectors, and that appears to be the case on the OP's unit, but perhaps not?

That should not be necessary.
Perhaps you are simply not pushing the IEC C14 connectors in forcibly enough?
Could it be that Quad used a 20 Amp IEC receptacle instead of the almost-universal 15 Amp version?
I repeat. It is not a C14 receptacle. There is nowhere for the shroud to go. Look at the photo. The required plug has three pins sticking out and no shroud.
Is it a question of variable quality ordering off AliExpress? Does anyone know a manufacturer or seller that has a better fit for the Quad that ends in a NEMA 5-15?
Caveat emptor on AliExpress. These are available cheaply from computer shops and Amazon.com as I pointed out in a post a while ago. Also you could just contact Quad and confirm that it is in fact a standard IEC or not.

Looking at the photo of the rear panel again it appears that there is a keying feature in the connector used in the Quad that would prevent anything but a proprietary version of the connector being plugged in.
@JCTyler can you take a close up of an actual connector on the back of your pre-amp and post it here?
Is there a tab in the area I drew the arrow? If so the C14 doesn't fit, but might be possible to modify.
Surely the proper version of the users manual has details about what connectors are compatible with the pre-amp power recepticals. As I mentioned previously you might need to contact Quad or one of their dealers to get the appropriate connector.

Here is a close up picture of the connector on the back of the preamp. It is for the grey version(later) of the Quad 44.
The tabs you see on the individual sockets are movable flaps which block the opening when not in use. When you insert a plug the flaps fold back by virtue of the shroud pushing on them. Included is a pic of the cable which is used on the connector.
