I have an old pc that i can salvage the power supply so i could use computer fans off of it.
but how can i make the fans run automatically when it's plugged in instead of requiring a mother board to push the button on?
any suggestions?
i know some of you spoke of soldering power wires to the driver board of the lcd but this is risky and a bit out of my league since i'm not sure what to identify as a suitable connection..........
is there a way to trick the power supply to always supply power when plugged in to the fans i plug into it?

On a modern supply there will be a green wire next to a black wire on the 'big' motherboard connector. Plug in the power supply. put a jumper wire from the green to the black. Unless something crazy happened, the fan should spin.
ok, i took the power supply out, the huge connector that goes to motherboard does have a green wire in that huge number of others.
what exactly do you mean by jumpers? are those the small connectors like that go to back of drives?
so i need to cut the wires from those and stick them into the green wire of large mother board power supply?
oh and if there is minumum load limit, then i could trick the power supply by running all power from the wires that go to the own power supplies fan..... right? or i could just hook up like 3 or 4 fans, (me and my friend have a bunch cause we use to build clone computers so we could have good gaming machines... but i guess you can tell we're not too talented in the extreme modification... (we just plug **** in and hope for the best)

guess which is the definition for you
to be slightly more accurate, those little connectors are also jumpers. any old bit of wire will do nicely. As far as minimum loading, most PC fans will be fine on a PSU without minimum loads on it... the voltage regulation will stink but the fans will run.
maybe this will help your confidence a little. Google really is great for this sort of basic information. confidence

AWESOME..
now i see what you mean thanks to that link with photos. and know i know what you mean by jumper /// makes total sense know.

Perhaps a "wall-wart" (wall mounted plug-pack things) would work?
If you can find an old 12V 0.5-1A "wall wart" from an old cordless phone or whatever,it should run a couple PC fans no problem.
And it's much smaller than a PC PSU. 😉
I used to use a wall-wart to run a fan for a bit of a breeze over my tube amps.

i'll keep that in mind too if i need more room when i build my enclosure....
whatever i go with, i'm definitely gonna get some heat shrink tubing to prevent some potential hazards.
