Hi, I'm always trying to downsize gear for our Pa system for live gigs. Wedding gigs require a quick setup. Is it safe to put signal for one bass bin (KME 500W) via crossover, into one side of my amp (Yamaha P7000s), and use the other side of the amp for a monitor signal (KME wedge 300W)(via Aux1)?
We did use just one speaker, one channel, on a particular night for a very small pub, and the amp which never heated up before, needless to say, heated up and the amp safety switch-off, kicked in. So I'm wondering do the signals to left and right of the amp need to be balanced?
Would appreciate anyones experience and Knowledge!
Regards!

There should be no problem with your proposed rig. The two halves of a twin channel amp are supposed to be independent - except that their grounds are coupled through the power supply. Which can, very rarely cause instability (but if the sources are from the same mixer shouldn't give any more problem than left and right) Has the Yamaha got balanced inputs? If so, carrying a ground lift cable or two might be worthwhile.

The amp doesn't care what the two channels do. It won't know the difference between two separate signals like you have and a stereo signal with one side having a low moment.

If the amp overheated, one of the channels was being overloaded in some way.

Used this set-up for a wedding + dj (pushed reasonably hard) over the weekend. Worked really well, no over heating at all! Only thing to watch out for is the pan needs to be kept centered. All in all, a nice smallish setup that still packs a punch. Thanks all!
