Using a small screen without sacrificing quality

I have read numerous thread on diy projectors, and have been trying to solve the size issue, there must be a way to find a small screen without loosing quality. I have noticed everyone being worried about the amount of pixels, but not many have worried about the distance between the two pixels. would this not also affect picture quality?

what is the drawback of using a screen less than 15"? will it be lower quality? i was thinking of maybe a lcd screen for a car or something like that.

Any input?

That is exactly what many people are already doing. The VGA Lilliput 7" is primarily designed for in car use. While not quite up to the same quality as a 15", it is very close, and is the next best thing. People using them have built some amazingly compact enclosures, a fraction of the size of a 15" projector. But the real hardcore still use 15"&17" panels to get the absolute best DIY projection possible, regardless of size.
