Hello
Just a quick question, I am using Rod Elliots pre amp (p88) which has 2 1uF parallel caps on the out put. Do I still need to use the input cap on the minimized gain clone or can it be left out?
Also I do not have the 1.5k resistor that is connected to the output, will this cause any problems?
Thanks
Kram.

Hi Kram. The best thing to do is to measure the DC on the input of the Gainclone (with source and pramp connected). It should be 0v with the blocking caps on the output of your preamp. If it is, you could leave out the blocking cap on the input of the Gainclone.

Connected to what output?

PS - try adding 0.22uF and 0.01uf caps in parallel with the caps in your preamp!
Thanks Nuuk,
The 1.5k resistor i was refering to is on the output of the GC not the pre amp, I should of been more clear. This 1.5k is connected between the output and the -ve supply pin I think (sorry dont have the schematic with me at work but i think it was one of Peter Daniels schematics ).
What advantage would adding 0.22uF and 0.01uf caps in parallel with the caps in the preamp have?
thanks for you time,
Kram

I think that may havew been the 'Class A' experiement which just about all of us forgot about! So yes you can leave it out.

It should improve the sound by 'spreading' the effect the capacitance has over a wider frequency range.
