Using a different woofer in the LS 3/5A box

It doesn't make much sense to even use two if they are different sensitivity, or other certain things.

What is the property you are expecting to enhance by using two instead of one? We could consider your options.

yes, same diameter different brands. I was asking because at the moment I don't have the equipment to evaluate them and these two woofers that I have from Wharfedale I was thinking of using them in the Ls 3/5a box to make a pair of desktop speakers, with a tube amp. just to see what I can do...
The only way I would use two different midbass drivers would be 2.5 way. Definitely not mtm.
Even size is the same, different brands mean different parameters.

let me explain better: having two wharfedale woofers and two tweeters, I was thinking of using one of my many LS 3/5a boxes to make the two desktop / pc workstation speakers. nothing stops you from trying, maybe the volume moves them well.

Ok, so two woofers just because. We've all done that 😉 You may not notice any of the below points but for those who know...

If they have different bass resonance properties they may fight and you could lose some bass.
If one woofer is generally louder than the other, you may not hear the other significantly enough to really notice an increase in level.
If they are both played at the upper cross, they may reduce output through directivity and not match well with the tweeter.

I reckon you should supply details of your two Wharfedale woofers.

Do they have identification numbers on their labels? Can you say from which Wharfedale speaker model each was removed?

And perhaps some photos of the woofers would be helpful.

You have two identical woofers from the Diamond 8 centre speaker shown below?

no problem 🙂
yes, i just have to redo the front panel because the fixing holes don't match up, once the components are fixed to the front and the crossover that is in the diamond, the test is quickly done. the doubt i had regarding the diversity of the components is and was well founded. in case the closed box is not the right place, i will make another one with the addition of the reflex. it will be a great achievement if i get to have a sound as close as possible to the Monitor Audio silver RS1 that work in reflex and have a more balanced sound than the B&W Cm1 that in my opinion the tweeter is too invasive.
