Ushio Bulb Problem/Question

I've got My Ushio bulb today and went right down and picked up a mogul socket at the local electrical supply. When I got back I realized quickly that the bulb with the base will not allign the arc at the center of the box b/c of length my box is not wide enough to mount the bulb either horizontally or vertically.

I know I can mount the bulb at a 45 deg., but what I want to know is this: will this cause any deficciency in the light output?

Nevermind.

I found that if I removed the end cap on the socket and ripped a 3/8" piece of wood, it will work horizontally.
