Usher loudspeakers are generally regarded as a great value for the money. I was wondering how the Usher 7" carbon fiber drivers compare to the Scan Speak drivers they are obviously trying to emulate. Also, how good is the 1" silk dome Usher tweeter.
I am looking to build a Scan Speak project, but looking at these Ushers made me curious as it would provide a subastantial savings over the SS's, if the Ushers are any good.

I've used Ushers in one of my projects and am quite pleased with them. The 9950-20 tweeter really impressed me. Supposedly it is a 9500 knock-off at half the price.
The carbon cones look just like Scan Speaks because they are from the same manufacturer, a German firm called Meuller.
I believe the well regarded and high value Dayton line-up is Usher also.
I am in the midst of another project and am considering Ushers again.

it is right - Usher and Scan Speak uses the same Cone supplier but thats all....if you compare both chassis then you will see some main differences. So its not "Copies" or "clone" of Scan Speak....they are very good speaker with some similarities.
I bought the T9950 for a project because I got it very Cheap from my holiday trip. It´s an awesome tweeter.....the german DIY Speaker Magazine HobbyHifi rated it very high.
I am working on a 2 Way System at the moment....and It´s my favourite tweeter beside the Seas NoFerro 800TV.
The Mid and subwoofer of Usher are High end......and an alternative to Scan Speak. I build a T9950+8137K Kombination - called LIBRA (DIY project if Hobby Hifi) and the woofer was really good.
Give them a try.....to be honest I can´t hear people talking about how good Dayton chassis are....Partsexpress sells Usher chassis up to 40% cheaper than here in germany. Try them...they are way more High End than Dayton!
And I am not a Usher fanatic....I like Peerless, Vifa, Visaton and Excel speaker too 🙂

Yes the Libra seems like one of the very best DIY designs on the market. The "waterfall" plot is amazing. The price of the kit is not unreasonable.

In the USA you can build the libra a lot of cheaper as in germany:
germany parts approx. 500 Euro
USA parts approx 250-380 Euro
In germany the usher distributor raised the prices (+30-40%) and supplier in other EU contries are forbidden to deliver Usher chassis to germany.
