This trafo has 2 main power amp windings, one lower voltage for 4 ohm and one higher for 8 ohm. User selectable by a switch/ relay .
I have this trafo for DIY purposes. Can I use the 2 main outputs (4 wires) at the same time whilst sharing the single centre tap.?.Windings 5, 6, 7 ,8 ,9

Yes you can use them both and share the center tap to make two separate independent power supplies.
Possibly you could use the higher windings for the front end and the lower for the output stage.

Thanks for that.
Was possibly doing to use one pair for a sterao channel for woofers and the lower voltage rail for stereo mid/tweet to 'biamp'.

The schematic is not yours, and doesn't match your transformer's configuration. Could you draw exactly and completely what you have in mind? The devil is in the detail, and using centertapped windings as singles often results in sparks and magic smoke
Elvee, I wasn't sure what you were referring to but then I saw I has a hand drawn schematic attachment in post 1. That wasn't meant to be there. Sorry.
I shall try to conjur up a schema and see if it looks feasible...basically thinking windings 5, 9 with CT 7 feeding one BR and 6 and 8 with CT 7 feeding another BR.
The 2 PSUs will be sharing the CT/ground.

I ought to try PSud2 but haven't managed to get that off the ground yet, but in the meantime here is a pretty horrendous sketch. Basically sharing the CT for the zeros on both PSUs
Well spotted! One is never too attentive, and submitting the circuit to the community is a good way to weed out such errors
Ah yes the diodes were just from memory and I can never remember the designation but will use monolithic BR probably so no worries there .
Actually took delivery of the trafo today and all this seems to have been in vein, well actually no it hasn't as I learned something.
But the trafo actually has 2 ' zeros'. So line '7' CT is actually two wires so I have a ground for each PSU which is good.

- Home
- Amplifiers
- Power Supplies
- Use these 2 secondaries concurrently?
