Use Car Audio for Home HiFi?

The particular amp I found says it'll handle 12 - 16V DC power. I assume that's to accommodate the racket in a 12V auto power system.

If they can guarantee operation at 16V, what's the actual limit on the switching regulator inside the amp, assuming there's probably still some margin on top? Thinking 4 LiPo cells, at 16.8 full charge, falling to maybe 13V at end of charge.

Worried about that 0.8!
They will settle at 14.4.

I have a JL amp and it's outstanding. The guy who created class D amps, his name is damore or diagostino, i forget exactly, but he offers his own car amps as well.

If you put a pioneer head unit into your box as a preamp, you can tune it to 31 bands eq through their app. That should make the box ring!

On another note, if you are doing this with batteries at home, you have to figure what the Float voltage is for your batteries. It can sit at this voltage and rhe battery will be ok. For 12vdc lead acid, that's up to 14.4... for a battery which settles at 12.8. so thats .6 over, for reference. for li ion, you want to be a little lower than .6 over, because it doesn't like float like lead acid does. In fact 14.4 is a little high, as most cars drop to 14vdc once the battery is charged.

---->>> I would float lipo4 and li ion just above the settling voltage. And maybe lower if you want your pack to last.

Lipo4 batteries are safe, typical li ion batteries may NOT BE SAFE. So be careful which you choose.
