I cannot give you an accurate answer as I am on holiday this week, with limited access to my computer to verify.
However, it should be possible to get the voltage you need, 12V by adjusting the pot, but to get 1A you will need to change R1 to around 0.33 Ohms.
You will need to use at last a 1W, but preferably a 3W resistor here, as it will get hot! You will also need decent heatsinks on the transistors Q2 and Q8, both of which you can substitute with TIP37.
