Please tell me is this the unit you are talking about?
I listen only 16/44.1 files, currently trough my PC's motherboard SPDIF output, hoping to make some improvement with USB/SPDIF thingy. Rest of the system is quite revealing wrt the source (AYA DAC TDA1541A + Aspen Amps Lifeforce + Dynaudio 52SE).
