USB to analog

Hi

I am planning to make new preamp. To that I need USB to analog converter.

At the moment I work with 2 options:

Use a PCM2702

Use a PCM2902 and use the spdif out to the ezDAC.

Does anyone in this forum have an idea of which option will have the best sound performance?

Ideas to other options, usb->analog are welcome

Best regards,
Martin.

Use a chip which will give you the option for I2S out, like a PCM2907 and connect it directly to the ASRC of the ezDAC. If you want to keep the spdif input use relays to switch between the two. IME the sound is much better than using spdif and the asrc seems to cure a lot of the usb jitter.

do you mean relays or a logic switch. Is relays fast enough to a I2S bus?

Relays are absolutely fine. Fastness is not an issue as they have low parasitic capacitance. In one of my prototypes i used the exact combination of parts as described above with 2 relays to switch between an spdif receiver and a PCM2707. I remember listening carefully for deterioration from the switching but couldn't hear any.
