USB output - input

Hello,

I connect a multimedia player (Iomega Screenplay Plus) with its usb-host to my D/A Converter with USB-input. I see the LED "locked".

But there is no signal or music.

Otherwise I connect the PC with the D/A Converter by USB, an here I have music.

Can someone explain this?

Thank you,

but what are the difference between PC USB-host and multimediaplayer USB-host?

USB-host is always in and out.

Every PC audioplayer send the audiosignal to the audio-output (soundcard) and - I think PC datas - parallel to the USB-host output.

I suppose, the developer of extern multimediaplayer don't think, that someone would like to connect with usb, when he listened music.

But it is the better way for HiFi.

With USB and Firewire only DATA is sent over the link therefore USB/Firewire don't have any jitter because there is no clock associated with the DATA.

The PC knows that the USB device connected is a generic USB sound card, loads the generic USB sound card driver for it, mixs incoming digital audio data and sends it over USB as audio packet in the right format with the help of the driver.

The multimediaplayer probably gets stuck at the identification stage already.

The ScreenPlay Plus is compatible with such media formats as MP3, AC3 (Dolby® Digital Encoding), WAV, WMA, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (AVI-VOB), MPEG-4 (AVI/DivX/XViD) and JPEG. The ScreenPlay Plus includes an HDMI connection and a USB 2.0 port for accessing additional storage from a portable hard drive or a USB Flash drive.

best regards from germany,

but I'm not a technical freak or Bill Gates.

I read the diyAudio forum with much interest, because the german audio forums are terrible.

Sometimes the conversion of ideas from diyAudio is made by chinese/taiwan boys like reiz.audio or QLS electronics.

This is the way for people like me to get good products for less money.
