USB audio interface for 24-bit @ 192KHz recording

Hello audio enthusiasts,

Since my band is getting more serious, we have started recording some demos. For this, we have used a small Behringer mixer and a Behringer USB audio interface. Now I think we can beat that quality by building a 24-bit @192KHz audio interface of our own.

I do realize that buying one is much better in terms of quality, but having great quality is not the only goal. I myself also want to get a little bit more familiar with digital audio and USB audio and thought that this might be a good project.

So for this project I have chosen to pick either the PCM4220 (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm4220.pdf) or the PCM4204 (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm4204.pdf). These chips will give me a digital PCM/I2S signal, but I still need a way to get it in the computer, preferably in a way that complies with the USB audio standards, so I can connect the interface to any PC without the need of downloading a driver.

SMD soldering will not be a problem and the preamp stages will be a later concern.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,
Kees
