usb audio host-to-host

Hello, ..this is my first post on this forum.

i have this idea of a gadget which will allow one to send digital sound in real-time without latency and in a easy plug-and-play fashion.

basically first thing i would like to try is using two TI PCM2902 chips facing each other with x-over s/p-dif pins and a common crystal for the clocking.

clock syncing with other audio ifaces will become an issue, but this to be review at a later stage..

the idea is to have a simple digital send/return link between usb hosts.

YES, we can use ethernet, but that isn't plug-N-play really ..

pcm2902 has a few limitations to what i'd like to implement, but it looks very good for starters!
i have already started with schematics (cause eagle has pcm29xx in there).

two questions that i have here:

a) how reasonable do you find the above idea?

b) what's gonna be the simpliest and nice chip to use to go above the limitations of pcm2902 s/p-dif x-over approach?
what would you recomend for USB i2s 96kHz/24bit ..that could be done without extra assembly hacking and whatever too complicated ..?

PLEASE DON'T BITE me about CLOCKING, i do know .. it will be, but i'm thinking of embedding a slave/mater switch and a world-clock-like link on the thingy.

a little more detail on why i came up with this:
i was thinking of an audio processing cluster (!) ..
say i wanna have like four mini-atx blades running pd and generating some "noise" on each (without sound chips or pci on boards- just basic cpu+ram+flash+usb boards, i was also looking for a USB mixer that would take, say 4, inputs and mixdown into analogue line-level) and ..i have thought of a posibility of having some s/r feeds between the nodes, so here i came up with that usb host-to-host sound link gadget idea ..
there numerous other set-ups i can think of .. for more general pc2pc linking (e.g. one machine runnign a live-set thing and another running some expensive compressor+(EQ)filtering and such ..)

(BTW, are here any PD-dudes around?)
