Hi,
This summer I got hold of a large quantaty of BUZ71A MosFets at a local flea market (500+).
When I bought them, I planed to use them as DC-switches in RF-equipment.
For fun I built a headphone amplifier and it sounded quite nice!
Has anyone used them in "normal" amplifiers or have any sugestions what to build (audio) with them ? 😕
I have some large heatsink just waiting to be used, så a class A amp. would be ideal!
/Roger

Hi,
Abt SOZ:
As the BUZ71As are Vdss 50V, Rds <0.12Ohm, Id 13A, Ptot 40W I was thinking something a bit more efficiant as I'll otherwise have to use quite alot of them to get ~10W output (...not that I don't have enough of them, just seems that transistors with higher Pdiss. would be better suited 😉 )

Just reduce the rail voltages and build either Anthony Holton's N-channel amp or Lars' N-channel amp. Search or ask on this forum and you will have access to these schematics.
I've seen them used in the SMPS of a few car amplifiers.
Actually,I could use a few "spares" myself...

Tnx for the suggestions!
I'll try and se how it goes.
I'm not planing on selling of most of them, but if someone has ideas of how to use them, I'll be happy to send some "samples" for the price I payed + p&p.
I think I'm going to try and build a BOZ with them in this case I made today. Running ~24-30V DC.
Is it worth spending the time?

The BUZ71's are limited to supply rails of +/- 25 volts max without any safety margin.
You could build a quality class A or AB amplifier in quasi-complementary style of around 25 watts into 8 ohms.
Cheers
