US Naval pilots "We see UFO everyday for at least a couple of years"

Since they are unidentified flying objects, how can you know they are they same thing?
If they are unidentified, it means by definition of that word, that they could be completely unrelated things.

In fact, you can't even use that whole description or abbreviation to describe an object, since you don't even know if they are the same objects.
Actually, you don't even know if they are objects or things at all.
If it's unidentified, it can literally be anything between a glitch, a weird spot, a bird, a cloud, misinterpretation, an error, a plane or maybe some aliens.

Which is the dumbest part of this all, since official people in the media use this word just to describe one specific thing or object.
Guess they never heard of the word dictionary either?

Joe Schmuck, "Look, a UFO, I don't know what it is, it must be aliens from outer space visiting from another planet!" Neil DeGrasse Tyson, "Well, if you don't know what it is, that's where your conversation should stop", "You don't say it must be anything."

...Neil DeGrasse Tyson...
Part of that sounds strangely out of context. People properly talk about things all the time when there is some uncertainty as to what is involved (i.e. they don't know exactly what it is). That includes respected scientists.

It is the jumping to conclusions on sparse evidence that tends to be problematic. Sometimes the given justification for doing so is Occam's razor. Unfortunately, Occam didn't know about WYSIATI, etc.

This is a Q&A at the end of a science show, can be seen on YT, titled "Neil Tyson Answers "Do You Believe in UFOs?" & Sets The Record Straight" ...Neil pokes holes in the pomposity of our ego inflated perception abilities.

Around 1972, as I was walking to school a few blocks away I saw a large round object descending into what could have been the yard of a large house. Before it dropped all the way down it rose again and moved off slowly. I did not see any reports of folks spotting a UFO on television that night or in the papers the next day.

I derived my particular take from the words from Neil, that of which Neil is carefully diplomatic not to offend...MY take is humans via biology are indeed moronic in many aspects & only thru logic, intelligence and reason can we move forward. That particular sentence I wrote did NOT have quotes marking it as verbatim...I note you just ignored that fact out of convenience?

More quotes here from which I derived my not so diplomatic conclusion, "...we're uncomfortable steeped in ignorance."
"we have high opinions of our human biology when in fact we should not."

I found it hard to reconcile his saying something so derisive, even in so many words.

I don't know you quite well enough to know your quoting practices, but from what you say now apparently you weren't trying to accurately convey DeGrasse Tyson's meaning.

If that is so, it would look a lot like another one of your personal expressions of contempt against people with whom you disagree. When you refer to, "The pomposity of our ego inflated perception abilities," is as if you are projecting about your own self-pomposity of knowing that only you are right, and anyone who disagrees with you rightfully deserves your feelings of contempt and disgust.

‘Aliens,’ or a foreign power? Pentagon UFO chief says someone is in our backyard
Well, its neither one of those entities, for one thing there's no such thing as aliens and it would be a spectacular failure of the US Govt that a foreign country could fly their military aircraft into the middle of a designated military area undetected.

What would be a better way for the US military to perpetually drain society of obscene amounts of money to feed the ever expanding war machine under the guise of fear mongering and fooling stupid people into believing the existence of ufos and aliens.

Fabricating a sentence, grafted phrases from myself & Neil. ...The human being, with our ego inflated perception abilities, our high opinions of ourselves, steeped in ignorance.
I do worry for our future long-term existence when the likes of Neil DeGrasse Tyson is vilified...who's next on the list?, Richard Dawkins?

Neil DeGrasse Tyson is vilified...
Maybe going forward from here we could agree on a more careful choice of words? It isn't that Degrasse Tyson is being made into a villain. That would be an overstatement. Its more an observation that he is just as human as anyone else, and expertise in one field does not translate into expertise in unrelated fields.

In a related matter, it is pretty clear after many years of trying to teach students critical thinking, it turns out that critical thinking is not a generalizable skill. It turns out that people can only think critically in fields in which they are skilled, and mostly only to the extent they are skilled.

Beyond that, we might want to try to reduce the frequency of using emotionally charged words with strong connotations of contempt and disgust, and or words typically used for tossing off insults. It always seems like its the "other guy" that is either mistaken or else up to no good (e.g. the other guy is a moron, or a crook, or some other bad thing). We don't always realize that sometimes people see us as the "other guy" from their perspective.

I was hoping for little green women.
You reminded me a story of a green man and a woman visit to the earth.
They wanted to study reproduction in human species and managed to engage a human man and a woman.
That night, the human woman looked at that thing and said too small.
The green man said, pull my nose. She did and became longer.
She said, looks like a pencil, The green man said, pull my ears. She did and became bigger.
She enjoyed the time and by the next morning the human man and woman met each other.
The man asked the woman, how was it?
Great, said the woman and asked, how about you?
I don't know. The whole night, the green woman kept pulling my nose and ears.
(This sure happens when someone switches from Android to Apple phone or vice versa🤣)
Regards.
