Perhaps an advanced civilisation has developed faster-than-light spacecraft based on superconductivity!

Superconductors are strongly diamagnetic, meaning they will be repelled by a magnetic field.

The propulsion of a superconducting spacecraft would therefore involve surfing the magnetic fields which permeate the Universe.

Lorentz contraction of electrons would reduce the charge density of the circulating current in the superconducting coils to the point where time shortens ahead of the spacecraft, thus permitting faster-than-light travel. 👽

Surviving the trip is the trick.

These guys would probably store their consciousness into hardware for the trip, and regrow bodies on arrival before reflashing their consciousness into them.

Or more simply, they would already have transitioned to fully cybernetic bodies eons prior.

considering where we are today, I'd say some kind of von Neumann probe which once arrived starts assembling tech and aliens that are stored onboard as info, along the lines of ElArte's comment higher up. just that having that tech would also make it possible for them to just build abstractions of their identities into human bodies, so if aliens are here, the highest chances are they have human form. would also make the most sense considering our surface conditions.
also some info on LK-99 drama, keep in mind this can very well be false gossip:

If FTL propulsion does exist somewhere in the universe, it would seem almost certainly to be based on a gravity drive capable of severely warping space - since gravity and warped space are mutual effects. Lorentz contractions then wouldn’t apply. I know of no other theoretical means for a vehicle to achieve FTL velocity. Likely, superconductors would find useful application someplace within in a gravity drive engine if such devices were to exist.

Superconductors could be used to shield the occupants of generation starships from galactic cosmic radiation, a necessity for sub-light travel.

It's known as magnetospheric shielding and NASA is working on it: https://www.nasa.gov/directorates/s...ic_Protection_from_Galactic_Cosmic_Radiation/

P.S. I was only spoofing when I mentioned Lorentz contraction. 🙂

The principle of magnetospheric shielding is explained in Section 3 of this Science Direct article:

Basically, the superconducting coils surrounding the habitable module exert a Lorentz magnetic force that acts perpendicularly to the motion of the charged particles comprising the incoming galactic cosmic radiation, thus turning them away from the spacecraft.
