In a sealed, .5 Qtc stereo sub design, does it make a difference?
The upfiring design would have a plate about 5" offset from the driver, which is 2 feet off the ground. Are there any sonic pro's/con's to this upfiring idea?

Can't say for sure if there's a sonic difference cause I've never heard an upfiring sub. But I'd go with downfiring since then you can actually set things on top of the sub. The woofer will be better protected also.
It actually depends a lot on the driver. With some it can be beneficial to mount down/upfiring, and with others it can be highly detrimental, and others it will make little to no difference.
If you can let us know which driver you're using, we'll be able to help a little more.
