I have four old Sb120a's in great condition. The problem is that their performance really sucks as a whole. The new Sb122's rock, but I have these old ones and I'd like to build new boxes for them and move the speakers and amps into something that will let them perform.
Hmmm...
Could be a few things causing the lack of performance. The cabinet could be leaking, causing reduced output. The drivers could be knackered, or the amplifiers could be knackered.
Need to find out what's holding them back, because those specs are impressive. 120dB@50Hz-120Hz... EACH!!

The spec's look good, but they are poor performers in the real world. Every
thing about the boxes is 100% working. I want to upgrade the sound and performance by building new cabinets. The plastic boxes don't have a smooth tone and are kind of thumpy around 100hz, no nice low end like the new Sb122's.

In that case, I'd keep the internal volume and port tuning the same, but make sure the cabinet is braced properly etc. Also, replacing the (probably dried up) electrolytic caps on the PSU might help things.
