Unreliable source for parts Warning

Hi

Just wanted to share my experience with this site:

Audio High End Store Upgrades Recap

They offer nice Nichicon capacitor kits for vintage amps.

It's a nice page, Professionally constructed and they are located in Sofia Bulgaria I presume.

On the 16th February I ordered a capacitor kit for recapping a Pioneer Amp.

The order was processed the nest day and I received an email with shipping status, but no tracking number since they sent with standard mail.

Since the package didn't arrive till now (4 weeks later), I sent an email asking what was going on with my order, and they replied telling for me not to worry.

In the meantime I searched for reviews and found experiences from another buyers that the orders take ages (2-3 months) to arrive and sometimes items are missing or not correct and You have to wait another 3 months for the missing parts. Who did receive the orders, also tell the parts received were measured and are not counterfeit.

In modern days, it's totally unacceptable to wait 3 months for mail between two European Countries, even with the Corona Virus Crisis going on.
I don't know if I was Fu#### or if the package did somehow got stolen or lost...It doesn't matter now.

Yesterday I opened a dispute process with Paypal and today I received an email from Paypal confirming the refund.

FWIW, I would never deal again with 'super-market8' on ebay. AliExpress have been fine so far, but tend to take a long time to deliver so I took a chance hoping for better service.

The chassis arrived with a black, signwritten front panel instead of silver and a different switch from that shown which requires two screws through the panel to locate it. The headphone jack was missing altogether. Return to China would be prohibitively expensive. Lesson learned.

Standard electronics suppliers stock quality electrolytics, most are next day delivery, wrong components is highly unlikely, and they will be of recent manufacture so a lot of lifetime left, and the website will show stock levels, and the prices will be competitive, not exploitative.

Funny, you should say that.... I´ve had like 5 purchases from the within the last 7-8 years... Never had any problems. Everything was always as described, and shipping was flawless. Too bad everyone has different experiences with different sellers. Makes trusting really hard, right ?? 🙂

In that case I must just be unlucky - there was also a small dent I had to attend to. My overall impression was of a warehouse in which 'make do with anything close-ish' was the spirit and quality control non-existent. The customer response seemed pretty casual, but that could be a language issue. The listing has now been removed - and another vendor has the same item at just over half what I paid......which really made my day!🙂

Audio High End Store Upgrades Recap looks legit to me.
Last year, arround 15th of December I ordered some stuff from newark.com , after 2-3 weeks I called and told them I did not get the package , they said it was sent and delivered, back and forth for another week, they decided to send it again (minus some components out of stock), got if after a week, and after another week I received the original package they said it was delivered . ordered on 15 of December , received it at the end of January once , and beginning of February for the second time.
The extra components I got to keep because they dont take back electronic components from customers .

The last time I used Newark was at least 25 years ago. They shipped my (all items in stock) order in 3 packages and charged me shipping and handling on each one. The cost of the parts was much less than total shipping. From then on, both business and personal orders have been digikey and mouser. Real parts, real service, real shipping prices and prompt delivery.

I have dealt with Newark for decades and always received excellent service. Then, back in February I placed an order for multiple items that were all listed as being in stock. I never heard back from them, so after a couple of weeks I checked the status of my order and apparently two of the items had been back ordered. I tried to get clarification from their "live agent" who was unable to tell me anything other than confirming that the parts were on back order, which I already knew. I asked for the in-stock parts to be shipped and was told that the only way to get that to happen was to telephone them.

When I called them I was told that one item would take three months to arrive back in stock and the other item wouldn't be available until August! When I tried to cancel the back ordered parts I was told to wait a week and then call back. The only information that they gave me was to tell me that they "had to contact the vendor" and that they would get back to me, which they never did. I then spent three weeks calling them every second day and sending emails to no avail. The only customer representatives that I could talk to were in India and were powerless to do anything with my order. Response times to my emailed queries were well over two weeks.

After six weeks of this one of the items came back into stock and I was finally able to convince them to ship my order without the second item. For weeks afterwards I would get responses to my emails telling me the same information that I already had, including informing me that my order had been shipped, weeks after it had arrived.

Apparently they have outsourced all of their customer service to a call center in India, which is staffed by completely incompetent people with no ability to take any action at all. I guess that some corporate bean counter decided that they would save lots of money doing it this way, but they have lost my business, and according to the online reviews that I read, I am not alone. This is in contrast to the amazing service that Mouser and Digikey provide, where if I order parts that their website says are in stock, I always receive them the next day, all the way up here in Canada. Newark's prices are sometimes a bit lower, but the other suppliers offer free shipping on orders over $100, which usually makes up the difference.

Take care,
Doug
