I am in dire need of some speakers for my room. In order to spend no money on this project I want to use a pair of old fullrange speakers that I ganked from a tube powered record player. I intent to run them straight from my laptop which will be enough volume to give me some soundstage. What kind of box do you recommend for these given that all I know is that they are around six inches in diameter and minimal in xmax? I was thinking either an artistically shaped flat baffle, but I want them to be hung on the wall in front of my desk and of course to be close to that wall. Maybe a large-ish sealed box so that I can futz with volume and damping?
Thanks for the advice.

Given that you know nothing about them, either that, or an open baffle is about all you can do, frankly. Not very scientific, but it'll play music. How much there'll be on the low end though is anybody's guess. How were they mounted before in the record player (stereogram?)? Try to build something of similar volume & that'll get you in the right direction anyway.
oh duh, great idea. They were mounted in short u baffles which made uup the lid to the player. Ill duplicate those then!
tade,
