Undisputed best way of hooking everything up?

I'm going to be aquiring a monitor soon, for my projector, and well...I'm a nub to this kind of stuff. I realise I can get a VGA box or line doubler (any recommendations) to get the video, but how the heck would I get audio out of, say, an xbox or the like?

Yeah ya see..that's the problem..I don't have any of those. Are there any other options? I could buy a 2 piece speaker craptastico set if I needed, I just need a way of hooking everything together. Right now my projector is in my unfinished upstairs, so I don't have any real expensive stuff up there (like my logitech speakers).

Also, on that cheesebox page..."640x480 @ 60Hz "...I think I want something a tad bit higher than that. Anything else available?

No No No No and No

X2VGA is the way to go. Everyone loves this one, plus it can handle all your progressive scan needs.

And Sir_Vival if you were looking at Lik-sangs stuff why didn't you show him this one? . It's temporary out of stock right now but it costs about the same as the one you showed him (60-70 so a little more, but it's worth it) and it's so much better.

Hmm, I think I'm a little too grumpy in the mornings. Anyway, x2vga seems very good (from what I've heard) but I haven't tested it myself (because I haven't even bought an XDUDE yet) but I intend to buy this one. I'm rambling aren't I?

DAMN THIS TEA!! DAMN IT ALL TO HELL! :bawling:

Well I,err, am the original poster. I just wanted to see what people thought about it. Can both of those things you posted display at 1024x768? I don't know too much bout video formats, even though I have an hdtv, lol..sorry.

LOL!! see? I'm all confused in the mornings 🙂

What do you mean by display at 1024x768? You mean 1080i? if so yes the X2VGA can but I am not sure about the other one..

ooOO man you got a HDTV!? Dude ARE YOU GOING TO BE HAPPY!

PROGRESSIVE SCAN OWNS US ALL!!

Well, it's not really the same system with consoles. I think every console displays 640*480 but I'm not sure. Anyway ..the signals you want out of your xbox is either 480p, 720p or the best one 1080i ...Almost 100% of the games support 480p and some games support 720p but 1080i (I don't think so..maybe it has but I don't think so) hasn't even been used yet. But if you are thinking about modding your xbox and maybe you want to watch DivX movies or just normal DVD's then you can set it on progressive scan and 1080i signal.

But I don't really know for sure, I'm just a Swede!

I have a dreamcast... 😀

Best game: Powerstone 2, with three friends. Fun times indeed.

Anyways, I just don't want to screw up. Somone tell me-what should I buy to hook up my xbox to my NEC 1545 monitor? I want it the best looking possible while under 100 dollars. I also really don't care that much about what sound I get out of it right now, and I don't need that much. Thanks.
