Folks:
I'm considering building a sleek-looking two chassis preamplifier. The power supply would be a small 2U enclosure (most likely a HiFi2000 Galaxy Maggiorato) and the preamp would be a 1U enclosure (most likely a HiFi2000 Slim Line). The design will require 12 electrical connections between the two enclosures. I have a few spare Amphenol connectors but think they'll be too large. Given the height of the preamp chassis, I'd appreciate recommendations for low profile umbilical connectors for a low current application.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Scott

For multipin connectors I have always liked the AMP CPC series (Circular Plastic Connector). Select the mating plastic shells, they come in panel mount and cable mount, then select the pins for each. either gender shell will accept either gender pins, so you can customize. There are also the optional strain-relief boot for cable mount. They come in anything from just a couple contacts to dozens and all points between.
I find the housings easy to mate, the screw action ring makes a solid positive closure secure.

If you want something really compact and don't have high voltage/current requirements, check out Neutrik's miniCON.
If cost is no object, go with Lemo.

There are XLR connectors with more than 3 pins. They're solidly built, yet not expensive, locking, shielded, and will easily fit a 1U panel. Also, large enough that you won't go blind trying to solder to them, and should handle a fairly large wire gauge.
Apparently 5 pin XLR is used for DMX-512. So, if you have professional lighting equipment, better not use 5 pins.

Which contact plating is optimal for preamp PS? Five options are available.http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogusd/646/1576.pdf
