What about sager laptops, my GF bought one of those and she has the UXGA model.
plus the guy that we bought them from really likes to tinker with things so maybe he may have taken one apart.

The reason I ask is because I sometimes get that same stupid answer from the manufacturers. They give that answer so you wont do a pin for pin comparison and a quick study of basic panel specs to find out that a "Toshiba model XXX" will work EXACTLY the same. I've been doing some digging on the "high end" screens from Sharp, what I've found most rellevant so far is the "black LCD" concept and the bigtime 400:1 contrast ratio......wondering if your source that told you it was 3 channel was a good and qualified source? I've been trying to "crack the code of sillence" for LCD's for a little while now.
I got lucky with an Hitachi panel....they said ohh...gee sorry can't help ya there...Sooo I posted them a link on their website showing the EXACT panel I was asking for. Hmmm within 24 hours poof I have my specs
Added bonus? The fellow that sent me the data said "anytime I can help feel free to..."
Your next step...pin down the folks in the Orient...it's been alluded that it was built in the orient, so email them...or maybe ask one of our very helpfull Asian members to write on your behalf? I can think of one fella that just might try 😉
At the very least we need to know for sure if it is a 3 channel LVDS...odd ...very odd...

I'm 90% sure that all the high-end Sharp OEM LCDs are made in Japan (or at least by Sharp's Japanese division). That would be a good place to ask. I think person responding to you from Sharp actually had a good idea. Obviously these people who sell aftermarket laptops screens must know a thing or two about them. Those links I posted are a few of them. Horizon technology seems to be knowledgable.
These people may even know the pinouts. I know I should be calling them myself instead of telling you who to call, and I will eventually. I've just been rather busy and haven't had any time to work on my project (like fixing my rings problem). Most of the time I spend on this forum is while I'm at work. I'm also a little discouraged by the lack of an available controller card (without any hustling involved).
The Digitalview card is just too expensive and it's lack of DVI makes it very unattractive at that price. Especially since I just found out that all new projection TV's are incoperating DVI inputs because some future "secure" HD format is going to use it.
That German one you found looks great, but I'm very cautious of calling them w/o an exact panel model # and a credit card in hand. I'm sure I'd get a much better reaction if I called and said, "Hi, I'd REALLY like to buy your xxx card for the xxx panel. I just emailed you the pinout. I'm willing to pay extra for it right now since I'm sure you usally deal w/ large quantity orders. I've got a credit card right here. Can we work something out?"
9X, Spectrah, Trident and EVDisplays could also be approched this way (Zardoz, you of course have a relationship w/ Spectrah). But if I called now, I would instead sound like:
"How much does your XXX card cost? I don't know what panel I'll be using, and I can't afford it just now."
Not good.
Nevertheless, there's no way anyone will sell an individual controller card if it has to be custom made in Asia. Digitalview's cards are completely user configurable- but everyone else's needs a factory configured bios. If the pinouts don't match one of the panels already on their list, then it's not good news.
The 3 channel thing seems odd to me, and I don't think that is the case. I think the 400:1 panels are exactly the same (pinout wise) as the other Sharp UXGA screens (the 200:1 ones).
AJ, I can't seem to locate the contrast ratio of the 15" Alienware UXGA panel, but I would bet money that it's pretty nice.

I've found out that the Sager UXGA panel is the IdTech IAUX14. 400:1 CR. Very nice. The inputs for this thing are identical to the IdTech ITUX97 (UXGA, but a 200:1 CR), which is officially supported by Digitalview. So there is a hustle-free UXGA solution available, provided you want to spend the $$ on the Digitalview SV-1600.

The only thing that scares me about the idtech panel is the 60 ms responce time i would think its too slow to produce quality video
at a high framerate.
Can someone with this lcd coment about the speed of this panel ?
for example is there any ghosting or streaking in fast motion video or games .

now its time for the controller i like the svp-1600 but no dvi but the ir and remote sounds sweet
Great job cruser [appluase]. A couple things on my mind. First off, I think the Idtech panel's 60ms is max response time, not typical, which I believe means that it's pretty good (not positive on this though).
I've been back and forth on the Digitalview controller as well. The remote is very sweet. There's on other thing it can do that nothing else I've seen can.
You can set it so that it doesn't automatically "fill the screen" when you set it at lower-than UXGA resolutions (there's a setting for this in the manual). This is VERY useful for people like myself who have a 16:9 screen (homemade from blackout cloth). W/ the sv-1600, I can have it in 1600x900 (or whatever it is) via Powerstrip for 16:9 material, and when I'm watching 3:4 material I can "shrink" it to fit the center of the 16:9 screen (and still have 1100x900 or whatever- pretty decent resolution).

im no expert on reaction times but the nec 1545v has a typ responce of 30ms and max of 50ms and in some scenes i can see a noticable blurr of ghosting usualy in most sporting events but not that often but it is there.
to go 60ms i think it would be considerably more from what ive read about the www in fast first person shooters and such games that require enormus bandwith pipes you can notice a verry small amount of ghosting on a 16 ms lcd but 25ms is the best we are gonna get in a laptop lcd right now.
it just sounds like common sence ,if im gonna dump over a "G" into this projector i wanna get the crispist, brightest, richest, and fastest lcd i can .
anyways have you seen what the (ASV) technology is looks pretty awesome check this link out

Rear projection. Very nice. Yeah, the remote idea is awesome. I'm 99% sure any controller can have an ir-port plugged into it instead of the OSD controller, but you'd have to be an engineer with exact schematics, etc. to pull that off. Digitalview seems to be the only one actually selling it like that off the shelf.
I have a question. These controllers that you guys are talking about.
Would they act like a HTPC?
or
Would you hook up a HTPC to it?

What do you mean "act" like an HTPC? They're not computers if that's what your asking. Check it out at digitalview.com, it's the sv-1600.
AJ its a stand alone lcd controller you can hook up just about anything to it
Hey lifter where did you get that price for the sv-1600 was it allamerican ?
I was on allamerican they have the irsensor and its $25 i rember reading somewhere it will work with a sony remote but i forgot the exact model i will find it again.
and i was just looking at some panel connection cables they had
WOW anywhere from $25 - $170 just for the cable!!!
I also sent sharp another email requesting the data sheet for that lcd,and again they reply its not a standard partnumber
must be a custom lcd produced for oem aplication.

Hey Zardoz i've ben meening to ask you .You use a laptop display for your projector right, so how many colors does your lcd produce?
Every laptop lcd i have seen states 262k colors and with that said
how does yours look compared to a 16.7million color lcd monitor ?

Yeah, allamerican (and that's who digitalview referred me to when I called them). The SV-1600 was I believe $685, and the SVP-1600 was $645.
I really think these things would be much cheaper if they weren't designed to power plasmas.
Is our NEC 1545 256K or 16.7M?

$ 25.05-IR SENSOR
$685.00-SV-1600
$???.??-CABLES+MIS+SHIPPING
