Someone is probably going to have to call Dell. That's funny you were looking because I was doing research on the same subject. I found an IBM/IDtech 15" UXGA panel w/ a 400:1 contrast ratio. I found a UXGA 15" by Sharp, Samsung, LG Philips, and Fujitsu. I did not find data sheets on them and I don't know if they're used as Ultrasharp displays.
I have an "in" with LG Phillips and with Hitachi, if you have panel numbers for these manufacturers I may be able to help. Also Samsung is on the "will talk" list. I'll see if I can cross referance this ultrasharp panel (no promises on a panel I don't have the number for). LG takes time sending me data sheets but they do come through for me. Dog with a bone! Don't give it up....NO isn't an answer. A little social engineering when talking to factory people can get you on the "A" list.
Try "Digital view" for a panel number for the Dell screen, they like to help.

Hey lifter do you have the partnumbers for those lcds if you can hook me up with them i will do some research and try to get the data sheets for as many as i can i realy want to go the uxga route but it has to have 25ms response, 300:1 or better contrast and support 16mil. colors i found a toshiba 10.4" uxga lcd 200 ppi wow!!
but its only 256k colors
anyways i did call dell thats how i got the partnumber they use
they want $439 for that lcd i would pay that if i was sure i could get a good controller .
the one im looking at is the prisma30 verry nice controller
but i need the mfg partnumber for that 9p031 dell lcd
unless we can use one of the ones you found im ready to
research any option we have, lets make this happen
after seeing the nec xga +3m ohp im excited !

Cruser, the IBM/IDTech is IAUX14. I have a site that sells these pretty cheap, as well as all the other 15" UXGA panels. I have it bookmarked at home. I'll post the link when I get there.
Zardoz, nice job. I have looked at digitalview. The problem is that the Dell part number is only relavent to Dell. It's still unknown what the actual make and model of whatever panel the Ultrasharp is.

Lifter tell digital view that you have a model X from dell, the lid is missing.. screen and all. You've found the plastic junk on Ebay but now need a panel for it...."what make and model is that please?" It's worth a poke.
What model of dell machine has this LCD? I'll ask the laptop guys in the city to keep an eye open for us.

Inspiron 8200. But this laptop is available w/ a SXGA+ screen, a 200:1 CR UXGA screen, and the Ultrasharp (which is UXGA w/ 400:1 CR). I actually have a contact at allamerican (who sells digitalview stuff). I'm not going to look TOO much into this Ultrasharp thing until I find a controller card that will drive a UXGA panel. So far there is the Spectrah which we can't get in single quantities for specific panels (knowledge thanks to you of course), the 9X Media card (I spoke with them briefley and he didn't want to sell a single unit), and the Digitalview SV-1600 and SVP-1600. $645 and $685.
I'm going to eventually buy the Dell laptop itself. Then I can try it out w/o a controller, as well as find out what make and model it is. Later, I can get a controller, replace the screen w/ a cheap one, and sell it on ebay. It'll definately be a few months before I do this. The Inspiron 8200 has gradually dropped $200 in the past 4 weeks, so at that rate I might get lucky.

OK, here are some useful sites.

http://www.asiatech.com.hk/notebook/lcd.htm
Model numbers of several UXGA LCDs. Very reasonable prices too, I might add.

Ok, the first one has the LQ150U1LH22 (I'm going to assume that's the one your talking about cruser). Don't know how much they want for it.
NICE! The second site has it as well, and they sell it for $295! Excellent. That's about what the non-Ultrasharp UXGA panels are going for on ebay.
Cruser, I realized something. The Inpiron's screens are interchangable. You can put a non-Ultrasharp on it or an Ultrasharp w/o reconfiguring anything. So I'm guessing that if you buy a controller that works for a non-Ultrasharp panel, it will also work for this one. Therfore, you might not need the data sheet for this exact one. This is just a hypothesis though. The Inspiron's onboard bios could detect different panels or something.

lifter thats good info about interchanging lcd's the sv-1600 supports the ibm-itux97 and itux95 and those are a few of the non ultrasharp panels so it should support the ultrasharp nice

Yeah, you posted that one a while ago huh? Have you tried contacting them at all?
You might want to check out Trident Displays in the UK. They sell EVERYTHING, and I bought something from them years ago, so they're cool with selling individual units to Yanks.

Sounds like a proprietory controller board...I hope I'm wrong. This would be a sweet panel for sure.

Ok, well is there anyway to get DVI and/or VGA inputs on a laptop? At this point, buying the laptop would be the best thing if you could get inputs on it. I know it's pricey, but it's a for sure solution.
VGA
Sure get a capture card for it, maybe a TV tuner card? Use USB or whatever bus is available.

heres the reply i got from sharp : my bigest fear=
That Sharp LCD is not a standard part number.
It may be a custom product, sold originally in Japan to an OEM manufacturer.
I do not have
Specifications on custom display modules. Without the original custom
specification,
I cannot cross it to a standard part number. You will need to contact that
OEM company for
assistance and support.
It may be a display that was sold in Europe or Japan or the Asia/Pacfic
Regions. My product database is ONLY for those standard products marketed
in the Americas .
I have no documentation to support it.
You will need to contact the Sharp support organization in your Region.
Use the Sharp Global Locator - http://www.sharp-world.com to locate your
regional Sharp office.
The only other suggestion would be to try companies that
deal in outdated displays, backlighting, equipment, and accessories (this
is not an endorsement
by Sharp of these companies, but rather a direction you might explore to
satisfy your
requirements):
so i guess it is a custom panel made exclusivly for dell that sux!!!
