They are very pretty. Shipping is a bit steep though. I can only imagine how expensive it would be to the US.
Those are coaxial 2-way drive units.
Not fullrange.
If that matters...
I would always use a "super" tweeter with most fullranges, anyway.

Hey north american folks,
You can buy PHY-HP drivers in canada from www.solen.ca
Well 4 models atleast: tweeter, 2 full rangers and 1 coax (KM30).
outside my budget, but from the pictures you can see the quality.
cheers

IIRC the tweeter comes in at 7k. These are decidely coaxes. Even the 8 needs help.
Exceptional build quality. Massively expensive. I have heard the 12 in one situation where it showed promise... in another where the system totally chomped.

HI Dave,
Have you ever heard the supravox electromagnets 215 exc? I wonder how they compare to the 12 inch phy's?
At the moment I have the ad5200's, but I will upgrade to either of the other units in an open baffle. Unfortunatley I won't be able to compare the 2 before purchase, considering the prices, this is a bit rough. So I have been looking for opinions on the web, both are favoured by users, but I have not come accross a post which has compared the 2, which is not really that suprising........
Thanks
Raja

I can't really say for sure- mostly rumor, but I think I 've heard a lot more raving about the Fertin and SV field coils than about the phy's, so if I had to choose I'd go for the Supravox's.

The piezo comes in at around 10kHz, and at least the 8" can live without.....when you like the sound with somewhat reduced treble.
Have a look at the PHY homepage...

KYC seems to have listening experience with every driver from the two companies. When you look earlier in the thread or ask him directly...

Too low for a piezo...🙄
Piezos?
I´m surprised that somebody even consider using piezo tweeters
in their systems....
The are relly crap if you asked me, at least for the hi-fi buff...perhaps
for some PA applications and even so...they continue to be crap.

They are not so bad if you know how to cross them.
A crossover for a piezo is different from a normal tweeter.
But yes, good piezos are a rare beast, most are very bad.
In PA applications they use piezos without crossover.
That sounds plain horrible.
You can't allow a piezo tweeter to reproduce the midband.
As a supertweeter, crossed very high, with a good fullrange, you would be surprized.😉

Re: Piezos?
Konnichiwa,
Actually, they are not bad at all, if you use them correctly. I first used them for "HiFi" in the mid 1980's and they where mils ahead of most dome tweeters, IF used connrectly!

Hi Kuei,
Have you heard the km30 sag by any chance?
Just wondered what you thought of them in comparison to the supravox electromagnet versions?
Thanks

Konnichiwa,
No, only the standard version in the Ocellia Kedros.
I never compared them side by side, but to my ears electromagnets have a certain something nothing else I heard so far has. That said, I thought the Kedros absolutely outstanding and would be very happy with it. But I'm equally happy with my "OB" Supravox fieldcoil drivers and my wife is happier with the looks of them.

I've not heard (or even toched or seen) any SupraVox. For the price of the KM30 there is an aweful lot of exotica that i'd look at 1st.

Very happy to see all this discussions on this thread I opened... Thanks
You're speaking about some very good drivers (and I'm very happy because almost all of them are french...Joking after european referendum...) but I think it could hurt my wallet...
I agree with johninCR that says :
"Price is, unfortunately, still a factor for me in determining the "utimate".
So, in this direction, what about eminence beta12lt, look like good in theory and a lot of people looks like happy with it, with a good notch filter, super tweeter, and zobel.
Thanks
Hugues

On a serious note, with drivers this big, is there a case for strengthening the basket as well as damping it?
Build a second basket from aluminium and screw a spike into the pole hole?
