I am looking around for a digital mixer style interface that also is a control surface for DAW. Any recommendations for a unit that can also double up as a workshop interface for sending chosen signals out to test circuits and speakers and things. This would mean at least a secondary set out outputs that can run to the workshop bench in the same room as well as at least pres on six channels so that I may have a spare pair for the workshop as I need just 4 for my studio
This looks like a discontinued product that might have done the job at a good price

The Roland MX1 is another discontinued one. It didn't have pres, but I am open to using dedicated mic and instrument pres if a good console like this is limited to line level inputs only
A problem with both is a lack of enough knobery for the channel strips. Dedicated knobs for bass, mid, treble are important for me
I am also a bit shy of Harmon products as I have noticed a good deal of digital equipment under the various brands being offered for second hand sale without the PSU and turning out to be bricked. I got done once on a Gumtree purchase too
At some point in the near future, I would like to get a Roland VT4 each for my four vocal mics. This gives me 4 dedicated pres that are audio interfaces too. Under Apple, this can be seen as one set, so I might only need a control surface. With so many different solutions available, my head is in a spin trying to follow a direction. Do folks here have any experience with this? What has worked for you?
Thanks and regards
Randy

Discontinued? It's in stock and can be ordered. Or are you referring to a possible lack of after sales support?
Seems this brand has withdrawn from Audio interfaces. StoreDj lists only midi controllers from them, for example. I would be more comfortable if I knew a bit of history on it regarding bugs and things. The MX1 is a great match and over the course of its many years, bugs have been ironed out. There are massive threads on it and not much in the way of reliability issues. There still are some shops with stocks, but it's an amount that I cannot afford in one go
I ordered the MX-1. I tried the ZIP pay option. This is the only multichannel mixer and interface on the market that is set up as a performing mixer. The only other options are things like the DJ-505 which is more expensive and has fewer inputs. Lucky to be able to have claimed one of the last two in stock in Australia
I’m not an audio engineer, but I am a professional film/video editor who usually takes his audio/music editing WAY too seriously. That said…
+1 for the ICON stuff. I own a few of their USB/MIDI control surfaces (16-bank motorized faders, etc) and they’re built like tanks! Also, for anything heavy duty (or with motorized faders) it doesn’t get much cheaper than ICON, either.

Hi man, they do look good. My MX-1 arrived yesterday, so I am looking forward to trying to create a mix of live instruments and DAW based drum and VST on the various faders. I think that's the closest that I will get to the kind of integration that I want. I love the motorised faders on the Icon and Presonus stuff, but this mixer is now making them a bit redundant for me (except for the luxury of motorised). Lol, I am still in a spin though
I have been trying to go for a controller based home studio rather than hardware instruments. The only analog items that we use, a bass guitar and 3 mics
My plan was to use my existing Yamaha MG12XU as preamps for those. The first four channels have compressors, pan, Fx, aux, group 1, group 2 as well as the 3 band Eq that I want in real hands on knobery. I can use the aux and group outs to send these four channel strips discretely to the 4 analog ins on the MX-1.
I use Fruity Loops. So I got an Akai Fire to control the sequencer and will send the individual drum instruments channels to a fader each on the MX-1. Again, I will likely use two soft synths, so for this I got an Akai MPK mini MK2. This should give me total control of all the hardware and DAW channels on one surface. I just hope this works well in practice

Btw, are you familiar with the music video clip making abilities of Fruity Loops? How would you rate it?
