No worries - mine's got the AD upgrade so I don't have that issue but thanks for looking out for me!
There's a couple of burnt tracks too, I guess I'll see where those lead once I remove the blown 2907.
Likely to do the seperate supply mod later once its basically working again (crossing my fingers).
Again t. I appreciate your significant help in getting this far.

Let us know how you get on🙂
If any of the tracks have burnt right through so its gone open circuit you should be able to scrape the good bits of track and solder link wires
Good luck

Here's the summary so far...
T2 has had its left leg blown off it…(base) – top is cracked PZT2097A (PNP)
D2 has split in half…BZX284C12
Two tracks under the labeling "T2" have burnt through – presume these feed though to the collector/emitter of T2 or similar.
T3 – PZT2222A (NPN) positive lead on pin 1 (Base), negative on 3 (emitter)is an open circuit – expect about 0.6V -> appears broken…also Pin 1 and 2 are shorted (Base-collector)

well you should be able to fix the track, just scrape a bit of the decent track at the ends until the copper is exposed, tin it and solder on the bits of wire
Do the op-amps look ok? I'd measure their supply pins for shorts incase they got damaged, if they are faulty the regulation circuit may burn
Fingers crossed it goes well😉
Another good suggestion t. - haven't got that far yet. Pins 4 and 8 are V(-ve rail) and V(+ve rail) respectively. Tonights task!

When you see this please email me your address as I wish
to send the NX150 modules to you.
I had lost you contact details.....😀

Man, you can run, you can hide...but not in diyaudio 😀 He he he...
Look forward to hearing them Anthony. Cheers.
In the meantime, on with the UcD repair...

lucpes was right...
Those mini-caps from Partsexpress were indeed too big, not by much, but too big none-the-less.
Thankfully it was only a $14 bummer.
Does anybody have any other suggestions on how to find the right snubbers?
Should I just email Hypex?
[edit] or maybe I should ask Silver Stealth and his wife! 😀 LOL
Regards,
Tom

Okay, I get the point...
I found them by myself - thats the desired result - right?
I can't be the only person in history to have needed these...
But, in the spirit of community just in case anybody else ever needs these UCD180 snubbers -
22uf 63v 5mm diameter 11mm height 2mm lead spacing
- a close match seems to be : DIGIKEY Part #493-1121-ND
Hope somebody finds this info as useful as I did.
I'll let you know if they work out...
Regards,
Tom

Sorry Tom that nobody has replied
Those caps should be fine if they fit physically, I can't remember the actual size of the originals.
They are not low esr so you'll be ok if they fit

Thanks, no troubles mate...
I guess I wasn't bummed that no-one answered - I was curious as to why that when someone finds a fix/part# it isn't stuck in a sticky thread to help those who might need/want that info. I can't possibly be the first or only guy who has needed this part.
It is almost impossible to search this site to any real effect and simple questions (like mine) often get lost in the larger discussion.
Best Regards,
Tom

Re: Thanks, no troubles mate...
Well Tom its possible you are the only one who has been unfortunate to have one of these caps go, maybe it was just bad luck🙂
A sticky thread is a very good idea, no idea why nobody has done one to be honest.
Anyway good luck with that replacement and I hope it all goes well for you, theres not many UCD failures really to say how many people have them, they are normally quite robust

Ptwining - had a quick look on RS components and found a Nichicon 22uf/63V that has a 2.5mm spacing 6.3dia 11mm high - series is called PS and they are low Z and cheap!
Yeah, the wife was busy doing something else.... 😀
RS catalog number is 519-4403 and 5+ is $0.47 (AUD) ea (plus GST). (Refer www.rswww.com.au )

By the way, t. I measured the Vss + and - with the diode checker last night to the AD8620 - read about 0.68 to ground on each pin. Assuming this is ok as they aren't shorted.
Re: Thanks, no troubles mate...
Sorry if I sound taunting, but replacing a cap is a minor issue that usually goes without any bells & whistles.

lucpes...
Before I start I'd like to thank you guys for helping me so far - I would have been utterly lost with out the guidence I've gotten so far. I'm loving my experience so far (albeit problematic!). As a result of your help I now enjoy a wicked UCD400 amp and have gained skills. Despite appearences I am pretty smart...
Give me a chance and I'd like to get better and become a functional part of this community.
And now, on to tonights program...
Lucpes...
Well, not seeming to respond to a taunt... 😀
What you say may be true enough for those of you with background and experience. I have a philosophy degree, I used to be an options analyst and now I run a horse farm - I also happen to want to build high quality audio for myself.
Know what? I can do realtime analysis on a portfolio of derivative products in a heartbeat - all calculus - program C++ in my sleep - I used to build Ferrari's for the North American Racing Team - we all have different skills. Right? No bells and whistles there either. For me...
I am not asking anybody to do my work for me - it's my fingers get burnt by the soldering iron and me that pays for the equipment I destroy.
For you speccing a cap is as natural as breathing, for me (and others like me) it's a new challange - and a daunting one at that.
How many modules are sold to dopes like me? I don't know. But do we deserve to be left to thrash? Is there any other place where we can appeal for help on obtaining (thru our own efforts) the knowledge we need to participate in building audiophile quality stuff?
I am a flat-green-newb, for sure - but - isn't the point of these boards to share the community of knowledge to all those who want to share in your expert vision? To improve ourselves and try to get a small slice of the skills you enjoy?
Maybe I'm wrong and this place is for those who already know what they are doing - my mistake. But every time I read Bruno's posts I really get the sense that he has people like me in mind - people who really want to learn and experiment - to get better and benefit by his efforts. Otherwise he'd have sold a bag of parts and an app note.
I am thrilled by what I've done, sad though it may be in your eyes. I feel like I've made a victory of sorts.
Who knows, maybe the rest of you don't feel the same way.
Anyway I am grateful for all the help I've gotten so far - and I hope an honest post like this won't screw me out of getting more. I am a true enthusiast and I'd love to be like you...
My father used to build tube amps when I was a kid - all I want is to learn and enjoy the same kind of experience I remember him having - I grew up listening to his marvelous SET's and I never forgot it. Now that I'm old (I'm 50) I'd like the same opportunity.
Sorry if I'm a pain in your butt but I don't know how to learn if I don't ask.
This ain't meant as a gripe - just an explanation as to why I ask the idiotic questions that I do.
You guys have all been great and I hope I haven't hacked anyone off because that truly isn't my intention.
Best Regards,
Tom

I posted the exact type number in post 20 -- but I guess I'm not high enough up the pecking order to be acknowledged! 😀

rogs... (and all)
So you did but in my emo fit I missed it.... Actually I did see it but couldn't work out how to actually get some.
After hours and days trying to make the Mouser and Digikey search system produce something besides yards of indecipherable tables my eyes crossed and my brain overheated. I popped my own mental snubbers. 😱
Apologies all. I'm better now. I promise I'll stay on my medication from now on... 😀
[edit] In any case I frinally called Digikey and got some caps - also got a lesson on how to use the search engine. The Digikey guy said that you have to use only one filter category at a time and then drill down one spec at a time. ie:
search for all 22uf - then all 63v - then 2mm lead spacing, etc...
Anytime I specified all the specs I wanted on the first page I got zippo - bupkis - nada - but his method actually works. Another epiphany! 😎
