Has anyone explored if these can be used for loudspeaker active crossovers, cutom FIRs, DRC etc? Is it a closed platform only accessible through their plug-ins?
Seems like a lot of DSP power for reasonable price.
Would need audio IO and multichannel DAC.

Well the specs say you can run VST/AU/RTAS/AAX 64 plug-ins of which there are thousands and thousands. You should be able to use VST crossovers or FIR convolvers, how this interfaces with the available power in the SHARC processor is not clear though. There is very little detail on that.
Also you would still need an analogue interface for the PC to get the audio out to your amps. This device is really designed for those creative's using a DAW on a laptop to offload some effects processing power to keep things realtime during mixing and composing

There are dual/quad and octa SHARC options so lots of DSP horsepower, but i agree there doesn't appear to be a decent interface to harness that for other usage.
What I meant was it's not clear what generation SHARC processors are used, how many taps are available, what frequencies are available internally etc.
Looking at it more it looks like the drivers will only work with DAW software. You can if course use your filters inside a DAW but this can be complicated to achieve.
Most of the filters you want to run can be run real-time in software like jriver in a reasonably specced modern PC. You then just need a multi channel studio interface to out put your various signals. This is what I do.
