Hello.
Just purchased this “thing” almost mint condition for 43U$D
Don’t know if it was overpriced or a super deal.
So what shall I do with this? Been googling around but actually do not think I can find anything really useful. Anyone have som suggestions. There is some pictures around the net with this “thing” fitted in different enclosures. I have never before built any sub. Only normal loudspeakers. So this is totally unknown knowledge. I think it looks pretty cool. Well if you have any ideas, suggestions or experience. Please share your thoughts.
Thanks / Sander.

The Tymphany LAT (Linear Array Transducer)500 can be used like any other driver with similar TS parameters.
It was available in 4 (2x8 ohm)and 8 ohm (2x16 ohm) versions.
The opposing cones cancel out vibration, two drivers would be required to do that with conventional drivers.
It's form factor does allow options to fit in thinner spots that other drivers may not, though the face protruding from the cabinet might be considered unattractive.
It's has about the equivalent cone area (Sd) of a 12" driver, though at only 6.7mm Xmax (Maximum linear excursion) is on the low side of displacement for a subwoofer, excursions of double or more than that are common.
Doubling excursion allows +6dB more output, over twice as loud sounding at low frequencies.
One concern is the LAT 500 has only 10mm Xmech (maximum mechanical excursion) , very little headroom between "all good" and "broken", or clacking/flapping sounds.
This site has the (simulated?) response in various ported cabinet sizes:
http://www.stonessoundstudio.com.au/stone/tymphany_lat_250_500_700_subwoofer_applications.htm
Below the Fb (box tuning) of 30Hz, the excursion could easily reach Xmech with far less than it's rated power, a HP (low cut) filter would be more important using this driver than the usual modern "sub" which has far more Xmech.
Interesting driver, but I can see why it was discontinued- far more complex to build for performance equivalent to cheap alternatives, and it won't fit into any existing speaker cut out, severely limiting market acceptance.
Hope yours is working well!

Well sound. Not flappy or so. I had I big party and playing “ around the world” daft punk. Then I realized, very snappy. We played loud the whole evening. Hehe. My neighbor loved me. Anyhow my friend was there and he has built a ton of loudspeakers. He gave approval as well. Surprised by the small box vs output.
I have a separate amplifier just for the box.
I’m not an expert, so I used thile and small parameters software. Compared o couple of settings.
Made a 3D drawing in freecad.
Files is available to anyone. If interested. Sharing is caring.
