Two ways better than Carreras?

What does great mean? Surely what is great for one situation may not be good for another.

It's a bit of a throwback from previous eras where great dispersion, in a tweeter, simply meant that it's off axis doesn't fall as badly as a typical 1" dome. There's nothing great about this as it's the exact opposite to what waveguides, controlled directivity, nets you, that being less high frequency energy thrown at the side walls and fewer early reflections. Dimple domes and ring radiators have poorer offaxis but typically sound better.

The Helios are absolutely the only kind of thing that I would consider a genuine step up over the Carreraa.

No doubt. It's just that I happen to know from a recent thread that classicalfan has specific needs and wide dispersion might not be one of them.
That's true. I really don't need or even want wide dispersion.

I think Wolf was just describing the Carreras in general. He was not really trying to address anyone's specific needs.

But it's very helpful to me, since it now sounds like the Carreras would not be a good fit for my situation.

The Helios really are a step up from the Carreras in size, cost, output, and cleanliness. It took a measurement at 113dB to even register in the HD plot pane.
That is pretty crazy considering a bookshelf using hifi drivers. A lot of people that have never used a db meter don't realize what that level of pressure feels like on the ears, or the loose things on shelves.😁 I think that it also is a sexy looking simple and elegant little minx. Glenn.
