It looks like the output of section 1 is direct-coupled to the input of section 2, with the 100 ohm resistor acting as a "grid stopper" to prevent possible oscillations. This may very well be a gain stage direct-coupled to a cathode-follower. You would have to trace out the rest of the circuit to see what is going on. This is not an unusual configuration.
