Tweeter sub-enclosure?

Working on a two way project with a Scan Speak R3004 and have a basic mounting question.

The front baffle of my speaker is almost 2.25" thick. After routing the recess for flush mounting, can I simply route out the center to to say a depth of 2" (total mounting depth of the tweeter is ~1.25")?

Does such a small volume present thermal issues for the tweeter?

Or should I simply cut through the baffle and allow the tweeter and mid to share the compartment?

Appreciate your input

Unless the tweeter has a vented pole piece I can't imagine that small cavity would cause a thermal problem for the tweeter.

If you have doubts - simply drill through (a single hole) instead of routing the entire thickness.
