Tweeter diffraction felts

1. Would there be a difference between felt diffraction that is a circle with a hole for the tweeter vs the rectangular felt pads that is shaped like a square around the tweeter?
2. Would all loudspeakers benefit from felt dffraction pads?
3. Is there a formula for the diameter of the hole for the felt pad with respect to the diameter of the dome tweeter?

Felt is a disturbance in the baffling. In cases where the flat baffle is the correct support for the waves, the felt may act in a way that is somewhat similar to a roundover. In other words the felt may create diffraction, but since this is more or less inevitable it all comes down to how you do it.

Why felt? Any non uniformity in shape is going to create uneven dispersion patterns. Maybe try a closed cell foam rubber like Altec used on some of its tweeters like in a Sentry100A with two different densities. One for frequency shaping and the other for diffraction.
