Hello there,
I currently have a midrange with a metal grille and a small cone tweeter I want to mount in front of the midrange. The magnet of the tweeter magnet latches on to the grille and so my question is this:
Will the frequency response of the tweeter be affected by this in a significant way?
I have a big off axis 6.9 khz dip and 7.6 khz peak and I wonder if those anomalies can be caused by this or if it's more probable that it's an issue in the driver itself.

It could be due to reflection/interference from midrange. I'm guessing 🙂
I thought it could be that too but the tweeter is mostly forward firing at those frequencies, more than -15 dB at 90 degrees so there shouldn't be enough SPL in a theoretical bounce to do that. Also, I tested with a baffle and I got the same result:

Sorry i wasn't clear.
I mean a reflection from the midrange, bouncing of the rear of the tweeter. I am assuming both drivers are playing.

Ah =)
That they do, but the mid is crossed LR2 at about 2.8 khz so the high dip and peak is the tweeter only.
The reason I'm wondering is that I've built a test rig where I for convenience mount the tweeters by sticking them onto a flar bar of steel. ( I have 9 tweeters but only need 4 in my speaker, so I want to use the best ones ). I don't know if measuring while mounting them magnetically will skewer the results though, or if the end mounting on the grille worsens performance.
