Should we divide up the group buy?
Well,
It seems as this group buy is not going anywhere. Would it be possible to divide this group buy? one for Teres bearing and the other for VPI platter/bearing? I thought this group buy was for Platter/bearing but it looks like many people are only interested in Teres bearing.

Teres bearing group buy
Sorry no recent posts - I have been traveling with work, and I was waiting to see what interest there is. It looks like there are 11 people interested in the bearing, I can ask Cris what the minimum amount I can purchase. Response has been weak for the platter but I will ask about it as well.
Thanks
Bill

I ma interested in the bearing / platter combination too, Teres or VPI i don't care. But a lot depends on the final price and, in case of the Teres, i am not sure i understood how much work is needed to make it work as i think i dont have the necessary skills or tools needed.

Sorry to be so slow, between my traveling and I suspect Chris does the same we seem to miss each other a lot. I indicated I was unable to make the 20 unit purchase I initially got pricing for and if he was interested in less and at what price. This was his most recent reply "I'll check on pricing and get back with you. At RMAF I told a couple
people about the group buy so I suspect that a few more my join up."
I think for those interested in platters they might just deal with him direct.
Thanks

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I have a bearing assy from a VPI MKIII, that I'm willing to sell. Came with a VPI MKIII platter I purchased, but I don't need it. I've had it sitting with my unused TT stuff for 10 years (So I guess it's 10 years old). Send me and email and I can send a picture of it.
I would still be very interested in this group buy.
How many people do we have for:
Bearing?
Platter?

Well I guess I can't modify my previous post, but I think that whoever was dealing with Chris should just go ahead and make a new thread for a group buy for a Teres Platter + Bearing. That way the group buy will have a single purpose.
I think that if we separate it from the mess we can see what interest is really there.
Is someone willing to run the Teres group buy?

In another thread "2008 Maxon motor group buy"in which I participated a while ago ,I soon realized that most other participants had platters/bearings so me being with out one,I posted my interest in forming a GB for Teres platters/bearings.Now I had contacted Chris privately a while back and he told me that he no longer sells the platters seperately. Then another member "Pixelplay" who also had expressed interest in Teres platters e-mailed privately and informed me that he was starting a new thread for a possible Teres platter BG and asked me to back him back. The same night he started the thread I posted second post.Since then the interest has being good enough but Pixeplay did not follow up (I guess he is busy). Then another guy took over with the job of communicating/negotiating with Chris at Teres .
Personally being an impatient person that I am,I contacted Clearaudio to buy their platter/magnetic bearing but it was out of my league in price so I ended up ordering the Scheu analog 80mm plater and bearing.I took delivery of the parts just last weekend. But I still would like to participate in this GB for the Teres parts if it happens.
Should I go ahead and contact Chris at Teres for the interest of all in here or leave it alone and let the other people deal with it?
Regards
George

yioryos, as discussed with you in the beginning this group buy was a platform for all of us to figure out and obtain the best platter for a given amount, and for people to contribute with information or leads that they may have so that we all would be able to have the best outcome,
all possible manufacturers included.
Congratulations on the platter etc that you received this last weekend, perhaps some details on cost etc may be of interest to some of the members.
As for the Teres, wirewiggler has been in so generously in contact with Chris about the platters which are no longer available, however chris hesitantly had said that he MAY be able to supply some unfinished which would not be the best option, however it is a start.
Had you heard anything from Scheu?
You seem as you self professed of "being an impatient person" have nothing to contribute apart from how slow this group buy is going.

I can check again with my machinist friend and ask him if he could make those Teres bearing cheaper. I know that housing would be out of machining bronze (not a brass like original) .As I understod him correctly he is bored with ususal stuff he's doing .

The Teres bearing appears to be made with a high degree of precision. IOW, the bearing housing looks like it is honed, not just bored out which is pretty basic machining.
Furthermore, the bearing shaft is ground to what appears to be at least an 8 micron finish. Making a high quality bearing is not childs play. 😉 Any machinist is capable of making a bearing but making a good one is another question completely.
Does your machinist have the capability of honing the bearing housing and also grinding the O.D. of the bearing shaft?
Hi
His shop is making parts for automotive industry. I think they have pretty good equipment. I lent him my Teres bearing and he said it wouldn't be a problem. I can ask the specific Q's if you're interested a .Now; before you all jump on me for copy rights and any other ethical issues AFAIK Teres project is on the web domain and free to use if I'm correct .If not I'll stand corrected .

I personally would really like to see a Teres Group buy. I guess my question is: Is that ever going to happen?
Chris at Teres seems to be willing to do it.

Pixelplay ,what puzzles me is why would an intelligent person such as yourself, write a rude comment like this against me,for no apparent reason?Have I ever being inappropriate with you or anybody else?I am here to learn as well, forgive me if I can't contribute anything at the moment.

Teres Bearing
I am still waiting for Chris to get back to me with pricing. We are low on his priority list. 11 people showed interest and I asked if he was interested in selling that many and he said he may have a few other people interested. He no longer is using the bearing in his existing line and is making these as a favor more or less. As soon as he gives me a firm price I will start a new thread, but I did not see any point until I genuinely had something to offer. I have been patient because I am in the process of several other projects and was not ready to begin on a turntable as of yet.
Thanks
