Turntable DIY ISO with Old Encyclopedia

I’m finally getting my old Realistic Tunrtable set up. To make room for my old LP’s, I’ll be moving out an old set of Encyclopedia Brittanicas.

I’m loathe to just throw out the old books so I thought a couple of them might serve well as a vibration isolation system. Each volume is about 1.5” thick with padded covers and a few hundred pages.

Does anyone have an idea if books are good for this purpose?

Really depends on the turntable itself. If it has spring suspension then the books just might provide the solid support it needs.

If the turntable has no spring suspension then a thick wooden platform placed on some isolating devices would be more appropriate.

It’s an old Realistic LAB-395, so no springs.

I was wondering if four volumes of the Encyclopedia would serve the purpose of the thick wooden platform. They are thick and heavy and I would imagine they would absorb vibration pretty well.
