So... Most of understand expectation bias and how easily the brain can be fooled, otherwise why would be trying to create a complete orchestra or band with 2 speakers! If you accept that, and also accept that there is no harm in it then there are a range of things that could be considered to enhance listening pleasure entirely by working on the brain. Does anyone have favorite techniques for this?

For example. A roaring fire, despite clearly adding background noise and other things always puts me in a good mood for appreciating the music. As does the anticipation of the glass of single malt in front of me. Both work on clearing the mind from the dross of the day and relaxing. So maybe it should be mandatory to do some meditation or Yoga before listening?

What do others do to 'get in the right frame of mind' to get fooled by their system? Are they placebos or just ways of calming down?

(aside as I get older I am more convinced it is the ritual of vinyl that makes it enjoyable).

Agreed. But if you listen when annoyed, thinking about something else etc the total experience is sometimes not as pleasurable. For me the second album of the night is usually better as the first has calmed me down from the day. That's all in the mind, hence interested what people do to give the mind a helping hand. Certain endorphin mixes certainly help a lot, but that's not a discussion for here.

Had a good example today of how relaxation can help. Came in from destroying an old pond ready to lay the slab for a new shed. Cold, arms aching, but I had an hour before I needed to do anything else and deserved a rest. Makes a big difference as you can let the music just wash over you. Shame my ribbons are still bedding in...

Nothing more relaxing than destroying something.

BTW today is my 65th birthday and the Google homepage has a birthday cake for me (I assume just for me) this is really creepy.
