Tuner out and mute help/tips

Im designing and building my first bassguitar tube preamp. It's going very well so far and the ' basic amp part' is done. So time for some extras.
I'd really like a tuner output and mute switch, but can't seem to figure where exactly to put them in the chain with no tonal impact whatsoever.
So far I've figured the tuner must be always active, so before mute. The mute switch must be followed by the input cap to prevent popping when flipping the switch(?). Tapping the signal for the tuner right from the input doesn't seem like good idea...
Does anyone have any tips or guidelines on best preactices concerning a mute and tuner out? Thanks!

I'd be looking to put the mute in by switching a grid (that has no dc on it) to ground. Later in the chain of stages would have less potential for pop. Tuner out could be via a voltage divider to ground. If you have a schematic you could post it since there may be a location it could be placed where it would not change the loading of the signal. The tuner jack could be switched so it presents the same load whether in use or not. I'm guessing most tuners are buffered and present very little load anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Connecting a grid to ground makes sense, as well as the part about putting it later in the chain. Pops occuring before the first stage are off course amplified! Do you recommend before or after the EQ, or another location perhaps? I agree a tuner has a large input impedance, but together with my 1 meg grid leak, it could still seriously effect the clean input signal.
