Perhaps less of an issue when operational bandwidth

As Chris says, a woofer should not have issues that typically happen well above their bandwidth.

As I recall that was one of dozens of Dave’s thought experiments for which his symbiot builder never developed sufficient interest to execute.

The above 2 projects got as far as collecting drivers and PVC pipe. Some woodwork required.

It could well be an issue with a FR as with the P7.

Note that given the typically large bezels on the MAs (smaller on the new baskets), the appearance of being close is a bit more deceptive than something like FF85/FR88ex/FaitalPro 3FExx.

But with a 4” FR i would not use less than a 5” pipe. 4” is for 3”.

He is using it for braekin, an dwill provide a bit more loading than sitting on their magnets on a shelf like i do.

It should only get better once switched to the intended boxes.

New drives

Well my new markaudio CHR 70 gen 3 drivers have just turned up, and I have to say on initial inspection I'm not that impressed with the build quality they look very flimsy, I know the basket was plastic but I was hoping for something a bit more rigid. Let's hope they sound better than they look.
Just need to decide on the cabinet for them now.

The plastic baskets are quite stiff if not quite as refined as teg Alpairs,

Do keep in mind\d the CHR is the “inexpensive” MA line.

To answer my own question, they do sound better than they look. I housed them in the end in one of your designs ( mini tower) It has whetted my appetite for a driver higher up the markaudio range for the same cabinet, 7HD maybe??

Hi Dave, I've got the chance to buy a pair of BK 12m folded horn cabinets at a good price, I think you help design them, my question is which markaudio drive would work in them( i know they were designed for the fostex 126, but thought I would ask.

We built the Ypsilon L50 "daline" loudspeakers from PVC pipes in 1982. Maybe nice for inspiration. After 3 decades the PVC becomes brittle when unpainted (the natural light grey color was liked by many) so not many of them around anymore. The series filters were very uncommon at that time but they made the loudspeakers an easy load for the small Class A amplifiers by the same designer. Sound was excellent and I do miss them. Less than a year ago I recapped an old Class A amplifier by the late John van der Sluijs (nickname: "the audiotollah" 🙂 ) and when returned to the owner he said it outperformed his Hypex amplifiers. Nearly all designs had exemplary performance and clever design ideas. Some ideas to be relatively unknown even in 2022.

Building/drawings and magazine by the designer (so both the magazine and the loudspeaker were by him):

The final 1984 version that was easier to build and it performed better too:

An excellent opportunity to learn dutch as well 🙂

Scott designed the BK12m (asked by Madisound), i drew them. Design breif was a modern horn that looked like the ancient BK series, but for the new, at the time, FE126En.

People have said A7.3 works well in them. I suspect more damping would be needed. If A7.3 works, P7HD should also.
