I won't let go of tube amps but in i might build a Class-d amp with a tube preamp for a friend. I'm also considering to build an 3 or four way Ob sometime in the future with tube preamps.
Any experience with this?

I run a modified Supratek Chenin tube pre with Gilmore Raptor Class D monoblocks and they sound excellent with my Infinity RSIIb speakers.
Usually people complain about the lack of "life" in class d amps. they have great clarity great dynamics but the sound is not touching. Does the pre-amp heal this?
If one have an UCD, the above circuit will not be of any use as the amp already have enough gain. Can only get worse with another stage whether tube or sand.
If you insted remove the OP-amp built in the UCD and instead use an unbalanced to balanced tubestage, a mod will be understandable. Talked to the UCD-people a whike ago and we agreed this could be the solution for those wanting to make a hybrid.

Last year I started developing such an amp, but gave up temporarily... It has tubes, video current comparator ICs, and MOSFETs. Should sound really nice, theoretically.
