@FlaCharlie You have my thinking correct. Bypass the voltage amplifier's cathode resistor, for max. gain. OTOH, Motorola (presumably) gave some thought to the interactions between degeneration and short loop voltage NFB in the O/P stage. I don't want to "foul" things up making incorrect alterations. VERY careful study of that O/P stage is (IMO) necessary before attempting tweaks.
