Hey everyone!
I came across this site while looking for speaker ideas for my little Philips AG-9016 tube amp and it seems like this is definitely the place to be!

Welcome to the Forum, there are lots of 'tubies' here..........some of us are old enough to have experienced tube driven gear in our youth. Some will never know what it's like to turn on tube stuff & wait patiently for it to 'warm up'.

This is definitely my first experience. I bought this thing at a yard sale when i was 16 (10 years ago) only because it looked cool. I had no idea it was a tube amp! But now that i know, i love listening to this thing even through crappy speakers. Now i'd like to make the most of these 2watts with some well designed speakers.
That's the rub about tube amps........building 200 Watt tube amps is extremely expensive, but not really NEEDED when one designs or buys outright a highly efficient loudspeaker. Do you know of SPL (Sound pressure Level) speaker ratings and their relationship to Watts??
Most 'common' ratings of loudspeakers runs about 92Db per Watt at One Meter......Now, one can find or build a loudspeaker rated 98-104 Db..
For every 3 Db increase one needs to DOUBLE the Wattage. Now do the math to get to 115 Db which is appx. "Rock Concert" levels. Wicked how it works out!

Hmm, that's pretty insane to think about! I'm just getting into the world of home audio and really don't know all that much yet. I think this will be a good learning project for me since i'll have to shoot for the highest efficiency possible to make these 2wpc shine. My limiting factor is budget. I don't want to spend a ton, plus this system is only for listening in my bed room and to make some friends scratch their heads when they hear what some 1963 2watt power can do.
********** Do a 'search' here.....Your amp has been reviewed, bantered about, talked about, at length, long ago ..2003?? A lot of information available!
