I have this psu that I think puts out 18V and wondering what I could build to put this to use. Like maybe a preamp, amp, turntable, headphone amp???
It's a verdier and was made to use with their control "B" preamp.
What they say about it:
"That power supply totally electronically regulated, includes 3 tubes, 1 rectifier 5Y3 provides the direct current to the regulation device constituted by a low internal impedance tetrode 6Y6 working with a sharp cut off pentode EF 184 which issues the amplification of the error signal."

I would like to eventually build a 45, 845, 2A3 or 300B amp and was wondering if this would be good to use for anything as an already made PSU.
BTW it's the 115V 60HZ U.S. model.
What do you think it would be best suited for? 😕

Just wondering how it came to be separated from its pre-amp counterpart.. Rather odd to say the least. Somewhere out there is a Control B missing its supply, and it would probably be worth having both. The pre-amp and supply retail new for over $2K. Before doing anything I would contact J.C Verdier to make sure it is not stolen, and then in the event that it is not they could probably provide a schematic and some specs.
I would be surprised if this supply could deliver enough current for anything other than a very small mono SE. You might power a pretty hefty stereo line stage however.. It's not going to be useful for much else IMHO. This supply provides filament voltages and a high voltage (possibly as high or higher than 300V) for plate power in the tube pre-amp it was meant to power.
The electrolytics in it appear to be 15yrs old and may need replacement.

I think this unit is only about 5 years old. I could be wrong or maybe they built it with old caps?

It's possible that what looks to me like a date code on the top of those caps in fact isn't, but the serial # information should answer that question pretty well.
I'm thinking a cool line stage you could power off of this supply would incorporate a pair of 6J5 driving plate to line transformers or perhaps an SRPP or similar. Note that some mods to the supply are likely required. The 600mA at 18V is the issue as Verdier obviously connected the pre-amp tube filaments in series parallel as those are 6.3/12.6V filament types in the Control B.

Looks like it would be a suitable supply for an Aikido line stage running 12AX7/12AU7 tubes. Regulate the 18v down to 12.6v for the heaters using a 7812 regulator IC with a diode in its earth leg to get the extra 0.6v if needed. However 600ma is going to right on the limit for 4 tubes in stereo.

2 voltages: 1 : 18 Volts for the tubes filaments
2 : + B Voltage for the electronic circuits
NB : The voltage + B is not critical .
It is very easy to adjust it with the little potentiometer which is on the PCB.
I recommand you 280 Volts.
(my unit is U.S. model 115v so not sure if all above apply)
