Hi there - as the title says i am having great difficulty soldering the heat sink pins. I am using wbt silver lead free solder and have my hakko turned to near max. The solder is not wetting the pad and is getting stuck to the pin. It appears that all he heat is just getting dissipated theough the heat sink. It wont get hot even if i hold the soldering iron tip there for 20 seconds. I dont want to hold it any longer because i understand the IC is heat sensitive and might get damaged. Any tips would be appreciated.
Think i just solved this - i switched soldering tips to a much larger one that had greater surface area to contact the pin and pad.
Sadly, your soldering iron may be too small, both in heating power and thermal mass. If you have a larger tip for your unit (ie more thermal mass) it may help. Else use some tin lead solder?
