Troubleshooting LCD displays

I have a couple LCD problems, one with a projector, and one with a laptop.

On the projector, there are several blue-colored vertical "shadow" bars. Area's where the color is bluer than anywhere else. I've been doing searches and companies that repair LCDs claim this is a reparable problem. Being an EE, I thought I'd take crack at that myself, if I knew what the problem was....any ideas?

On the Laptop, there's a contrast line running across the screen. That is, the top section of the screen is darker than the bottom section with a horizontal line about 2/3s of the way down. I've heard this has something to do with averaging potentiometers. I have no idea how those work, or how to adjust them, so I thought maybe you guys out there might know something about them, or know some resources for this.

MOre info

Wow...this is pretty sad. No one knows. Then again...such knowledge is pretty esoteric.

Just on the off random chance that someone out there is actually an expert, I've found that the bars on my LCD projector do not reverse when the image is reverse, and remain even when there is no projector input. They are red on a black background, white on a cyan background, yellow on a green background, and magenta on a blue background.

I suspect that the red LCD has stuck pixels, but I'm hoping it's just a glitch that can be fixed electronically, maybe from a service menu. Is there any way I can check to see whether the pixels are actually stuck on?

unfortnantly I have no answers, but i do have the same problem on a LCD projector. I have puled it apart and see several adjustments, but I'm not ready to jump in quit yet. I'm a bit suprised there is no info on the web that i can find. If i find anythign I will post here.
