Trouble with phase (Vifa XT25TG30-04)

I don't believe in purchasing an inexpensive tweeter and having to over spend on parts to make it work.

Whether the tweeter is inexpensive or costly, the crossover parts are still the same when you cross near 2kHz.

If you want a cheaper crossover, select a crossover higher up. At 3kHz-3.5kHz, you can get away with a cap, an inductor and two resistors. Move it even higher and you can do with just a cap and two resistors.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I don't believe in purchasing an inexpensive tweeter and having to over spend on parts to make it work.
Thank you all for your input. I will keep this tweeter for something else.

This is silly. You had a simulation that showed great promise except the phase blend between drivers was a little off (note that on a slightly different listening axis the phase would probably be perfectly fine). Everybody has jumped in with how you should redesign the system with their favorite (more expensive) driver.

Build it up per the simulation and be happy.

I think you're right. That XT25 tweeter is good for a 4 or 5" bass with a 3.5kHz crossover:
Vifa PL14WJ-

For the sort of 2.7kHz crossover that the 4.5kHz notched resonance of that kevlar bass needs, a ferrofluid 29mm jobbie like the SEAS 29TFF/W would be better:
SEAS CURV

I'd sim a circuit like this either with a zobel or an attenuator on the tweet. The 4.5kHz notch on the bass should be about right and phase will be good.

XT25, have several here - been toying with the idea of just building Madisound's HDS; xo design and info back on post #16.

I see that the 4" Peerless can be used in a vented box (which I didn't know).

edit - MS HDS is using 9.0 cap for tweeter (FYI Only)

Well, that's certainly one way to go.

On the other hand, the XT25 may be inexpensive but it also is a great performer above 2500Hz. I use it in Zaph's ZD5 and think it's fantastic. The harmonic distortion above 2000Hz is outstanding. In my mind, spending another $11.67 on the xo is worth it. And that's all it would cost using these parts:

100uF 100V Non-Polarized Capacitor 027-360
Jantzen 1.0mH 18 AWG Air Core Inductor 255-250
Dayton Audio DNR-4.7 4.7 Ohm 10W Precision Audio Grade Resis 004-4.7

And that's with a 2nd order xo at 2500Hz so if you could make that work with your woofer, you might save an extra cap there too.

Personally, I'd play around with that in PCD a little more before discarding the whole idea. Just my thoughts of course.
