A bit of food for thought there.
Leaning towards the Asathor. Just because. Will investigate drivers, availability and shipping from (most likely) Europe.
As a side note, drivers for the Tarkus are sub AU$500 and available locally, so may need to knock a pair up in the meanwhile. I did see a single broad baffle for it online somewhere which also simplifies things.
And I was recently gifted a pair of PA speakers which have a Radian 450 and McCauley 12" woofer - the woofer has water damage, but the CD looks good.

microdub,
One bigger bass cabinet and a smaller mid-tweeter box on top of that is not a bad thing. My recent build follows the same format, and moving around the cabinets is easier vs one big cabinet. 🙂
I've wanted to hear these for a while and nearly built a quad as surrounds a while back. Interested in another data point if you do build them.As a side note, drivers for the Tarkus are sub AU$500 and available locally, so may need to knock a pair up in the meanwhile.

Nice CDs. The McCauleys can be a bit hit/miss in terms of T/S for use in hifi stuff unless you DSP-wrangle them to behave. And I was recently gifted a pair of PA speakers which have a Radian 450 and McCauley 12" woofer - the woofer has water damage, but the CD looks good.
Good score.
Just be careful with the part number for the Vifa: the local Oz product:As a side note, drivers for the Tarkus are sub AU$500 and available locally, so may need to knock a pair up in the meanwhile. I did see a single broad baffle for it online somewhere which also simplifies things.

is noted as a replacement for the DX25TG05-04 , but the original tweeter for the Tarkus is the DX25TG09-04, since replaced by Vifa the 59-04 . Paul has crossovers for both. The only difference between the two XOs is the value of a shunt resistor in the tweeter circuit, but it is important.
Not sure how different the 05-04 would sound to those tweeters, but I suggest asking the question here; or, just order the right part number from whoever has it. It's not a big part of the cost. I've only read good things about these speakers.
There have been several Tarkus builds using one cabinet, there are two on the Tarkus web page, they look great.

Well spotted, don't know how I missed that! Maybe because it says "Farbic" dome tweeter"?!
Would love to build these one day. Have never read anything critical about them and would build the original cabinets, the single enclosure would be far too heavy for me.

I put the model number into the search bar. I knew they were available as I'd looked at building some for surrounds, then bedroom speakers, before deciding to go the the big surrounds and use the old JBL LX400s in the BR; much less work this way.Well spotted, don't know how I missed that!
